Last month I had the pleasure of photographing the Bournemouth beach wedding of Jan and Keith. As you might have guessed already, the venue was the fabulous Beach Weddings Bournemouth!
As we all know, weddings are stressful events! 🙂 Stressful for the couple and their families, but also for the suppliers – florists, caterers, venue etc. and especially photographers. We only have once chance to shoot this special day and we have to get it right – irrespective of what the day throws at us!
There are certain weddings that place even more pressure on photographers – those of friends, other wedding photographers’ weddings and celebrity events (such as the wedding I shot last year in front of the ITV Daybreak cameras). A few weeks ago there was one such wedding …..
Over the past 16 months I’ve photographed a lot of weddings with Beach Weddings Bournemouth, but this particular wedding had a very special connection for the BWB team. In case you’re not aware, BWB is run by the lovely Melanie Kiani and we get on really well, which makes life so much easier when covering a wedding. On this occasion the wedding was very personal for Melanie – it was her Mum’s, and I’d been asked to photograph it …. no pressure then! 🙂
I’d met Jan and her fiancée Keith a few times and we got on famously – they were looking for informal coverage that captured the spirit of the day, which IS my style. Obviously, from the team’s perspective there was additional pressure to make the boss’ Mum’s wedding run smoothly, and some of my “dream team” of wedding suppliers had been enlisted by Jan (but more of that later).
Jan’s favourite colour is fuchsia pink, and the marquee was decorated accordingly – the colours really stood out against the beach background and looked stunning.
The glorious setting for Jan and Keith’s Bournemouth beach wedding
I met up with Jan and her family at the Marriott Highcliff for a few shots and then we made our way down to the beach via the cliff-lift …. always fun if someone’s not too keen on heights! But don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe, and a great way to view your wedding venue down on the sand.
A beautiful sunny day for the Bride
As always, the beach ceremonies are beautiful – gorgeous light spilling through the marquee, the sounds of the waves lapping on the shore, and emotions galore!
Emotions – lots of them!
After the ceremony, a chance for everyone to relax on the beach during the drinks reception – soaking up that glorious Summer sunshine!
Time to chill out on the beach and enjoy yourselves!
Jan’s “fuschia pink” theme continued in the marquee for the wedding breakfast, with fabulous floral displays from the lovely Emma at Arcade Flowers in Ringwood. The stunning food was from the very talented Matthew from Fish Face.
More pink …. 🙂
Then it was time for the speeches, and boy, were there some great emotions on display? Everything from tears to laughter and back to tears again – priceless!
Oh, those speeches! 🙂
It was such a beautiful and emotional wedding – a real joy and a privilege to photograph …. thank you Jan and Keith, for letting me be a part of your special day! x
Last week I received this lovely “thank you card” from Jan and Keith ….
“Dear Ian – we would just like to say a very big thank you, for doing us the great honour of being our photographer on our wedding day. You’re so very clever, always being in the right place at the right time. Achieving absolutely stunning pictures, with tireless patience. We never dreamt we would have so many lovely shots of us, our family, friends, and the venue. We shall always treasure them. Jan and Keith xxx”
