At the weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Andreina and Richard’s lovely wedding in Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck. The wedding ceremony itself was held on a beautiful sunny morning at the Town Hall in Swanage. Afterwards the guests moved on towards the beautiful Kimmeridge Bay for the reception at the stunning Smedmore House, a hidden gem of a Dorset wedding venue. With exclusive use of the house and grounds it’s a fabulous location for your wedding. The marquee on the front lawn absolutely glistened in the Summer sunlight. Guests enjoyed drinks in the walled garden whilst the children explored the woods and the gardens. No sneak peeks from this wedding, but I’ll be sharing some images after Andreina and Richard have seen their wedding photographs.

Smedmore House, Dorset wedding venue
Smedmore House is an 18th Century Georgian Manor House situated on Dorset’s fabulous Jurassic Coast. Privately owned, with stunning sea views and surrounded by beautiful countryside. With two acres of flower gardens, a Mediterranean garden, orchards, woods and fields it offers endless possibilities for your wedding photographs. All you need to do is make sure you’ve allocated enough time for your photographer to maximise its potential!
The House is licensed for civil ceremonies, or you can have your reception here, like Andreina and Richard. It’s a beautiful property and it’s almost like stepping back in time when you walk through the front door. Elegant but homely. Somewhere special to share your special day with family and friends.
A little bit of history: the original Grade 2* House was constructed in about 1610 and is recorded in A Survey of Dorsetshire in about 1620 as “a little newe house and beautified with pleasant gardens”. Around 1700 the Queen Anne garden façade was built, and in 1760 two elegant Georgian bays were added to the north west front.
The House really is delightful. It oozes character in every room, with wood panelling, library shelves and antique furnishings. Beautiful bay windows let the light flood in. With furniture handed down through the generations, 17th Century Dutch pictures and ancestral portraits it’s hard to imagine anywhere else quite like it. Truly magical.
