If you’ve read the pages on my website or browsed through the Blog, you’ll know that I love capturing candid moments. Documentary wedding photography.
To me, wedding photography is about capturing people and emotions, not endless series of photos on the shoes or the details. They’re important, but to me, not as important as people.
Most of my work appears in colour, but I love black and white. Stripping out the colour lets you concentrate on the subject and highlight the moment.
This image is one of those moments.
I shot this at Tash and Will’s amazing wedding at Northbrook Park in Surrey last year. The day was filled with fun, laughter and smiles.
After the First Dance it was time to let their hair down and party.
I love this picture because it’s filled with expression and emotion.
Tash is a free spirit and her face lights up when she laughs. We can only guess what the guy in the foreground was saying or doing. Whatever it was, it certainly had an impact.
If I entered this into a wedding photography competition it would probably be marked down because the guy’s blocking some of the frame. I don’t care. What’s important is that whatever he’s up to, it’s got everyone else in fits of laughter. In that split second I captured something that encapsulates the fun of the wedding day. THAT’S what you remember!
I hope that you love it too.
