Why I love this image – Lost in Thought
As a Dorset wedding photographer I get to be a part of (probably) the most special day in my couples’ lives. In this occasional series I’m looking back at weddings from recent years, choosing images that actually speak out to me. Images that when you understand the story behind them, really come alive.
Today I’m turning back the clock to Ami and Chris’ wedding at Merley House, near Wimborne.
As my primary style is documentary wedding photography, I’m always looking for images. Opportunities to capture something that goes beyond “the norm” of wedding photography. Fleeting moments. Moments that, to the casual observer, would mean nothing. But moments that speak volumes to those involved with the wedding.
Chris had asked his very best friend, his Brother, to be his Best Man. In most cases there’s a certain bond between Brothers that can’t be explained. Sometimes it’s stronger than others. This was one of those times.
As Chris and Ami exchanged their vows all of the focus of the wedding guests was on the couple. I looked through the gap between them and saw Chris’ Brother. To me, his expression hints at being lost in his own thoughts. About the good times, and the bad, about growing up together.
As I said, without context this image wouldn’t mean anything, Just a shot of a man. But to the couple and their families, it means much more.
