Julie and Gary’s beach wedding was exactly two years ago today. On a sunny afternoon at Beach Weddings Bournemouth. So, it’s Happy Anniversary time! 🙂
They called me up a few weeks before their wedding. They’d managed to get a spare slot one afternoon at BWB and asked if I’d be part of their day. There was only one condition. We had to keep it secret. Well, they’ve been together since they were childhood sweethearts. Everyone knew they’d get married at some point, but they’d shown no interest. It turns out they’d decided to marry but without telling anyone – parents, family or friends. Well, one person knew – their young daughter. Their biggest concern was that she’d blurt out the news beforehand, but she was impeccably behaved and never told a soul. They just wanted a simple ceremony with their two young children and no-one else around. They had another surprise for me …. would I be a witness, along with Melanie from BWB? How could I refuse?
As they’re VW fans it was no surprise when I arrived at the hotel to find Lulu from Dorset Dubhire waiting for me. Her chrome sparkled in the Summer sunshine and she was the perfect transport for this lovely family. Down on the beach the ceremony was surprisingly moving – I never cease to be amazed how some weddings really resonate with me, and I could almost feel myself welling up. The funniest moment was after we’d taken the photos of the register being signed, they wanted Melanie and myself in the photo. Now I’m not really into selfies, so I had to give the camera to Kathy, one of the Registrars. As she’d never used an SLR before I had to set the focus and exposure and then show her how to hold the camera and release the shutter. Let’s just say that I doubt she’ll be in a hurry to swap jobs with me! 🙂
After the ceremony it was down to the water for some family photos and a bit of fun. It was a delightful afternoon and a real pleasure to be part of such an intimate and personal moment of their lives. Thank you, Julie and Gary, and congratulations 🙂 xx
