Dorset flooding 2012 – River Stour
by Ian Hamilton
Dorset flooding of the River Stour
After the best part of two weeks spent editing weddings and portrait shoots I decided it was time to get away from the PC for a few hours and get outside with the camera – so what more topical subject could there be in this wonderful British Summer that we’re “enjoying” than the recent torrential rain and the subsequent flooding?
The rainfall we’ve had over the past couple of months has meant that the ground’s sodden and unable to absorb the rainfall, so naturally it runs off and heads to the lowest point, which around here is the River Stour – and of course all that water’s got to head out towards the sea so the lower reaches of the river get affected most.
Here are just a few images form the area around Longham Bridge and Parley …

The Bridge House Hotel at Longham which was evacuated yesterday after the Stour burst its banks

No, not the mighty Amazon, but the Stour from Longham Bridge!

Water hazards at the Dudsbury Golf Course!

Floods near Ensbury Bridge

Ramblers would be better off with a canoe for this footpath on the Stour Valley Way!

Debris washed up as the river sweeps everything before it
Let’s hope that the weather improves soon and that we can start to enjoy what’s left of “Summer”! 🙂
