Charity Ball in aid of Diabetes research – Dorset event photography

Charity Ball in aid of Diabetes Research

Last weekend saw me donning the dinner jacket (yes, it still fits!), sprucing myself up and hopping over to the Marriott Highcliffe Hotel in Bournemouth – not for a wedding this time, but for a charity Ball.

You may recall that a while ago I was involved in a photo-shoot at Brands Hatch (click here to view the post) for a local charitable organisation – Pop 4 Diabetes – we had a great day … fast cars, gorgeous models and a music video – fabulous. Well, as part of their annual fund-raising efforts they hold a Ball, raising thousands of pounds for continuing research into finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes (which affects more than 10-15% of the 2.9 million people in the UK alone who suffer from Diabetes). They also usually have a celebrity guest, and this year it was the charming Kerry Katona – the Ball also featured a fashion show, singers and dancers (many of whom are Diabetes sufferers themselves), a magician and ….. oh yes, Elvis – who made a special come-back just for the occasion!.

So, I arrived at the Hotel several hours before the event so that I could shoot some behind-the-scenes images of the girls getting ready for the fashion show, and then the arrival of some of the guests (although as they were coming into the Ballroom from two different directions it was impossible to capture everyone!). Kerry did a short interview which was filmed and then the event got under way – a packed Ballroom enjoying their meal and then being treated to some excellent singing and dancing.

By the time the formalities were over and the guests packed onto the dance floor I packed away my cameras and made my way home, but the festivities carried on into the night and the event was a great success.

If you’d like to know more about Pop 4 Diabetes and the work that they do for fund-raising into Diabetes research please click here to visit their website. I have to admit that, having seen some of the young children at the event and hearing about their courage in coping with the illness it brings life’s day-to-day troubles into perspective.

Here are just a few sneak peeks from the event – hopefully next week will be a bit calmer and I’ll be able to start catching up on my blogging about my wedding photography and other things I’ve been involved in this year!
