I’ve said it before and no doubt will say it again (and again, for which I make no apology) – weddings are all about people, not details.
Emotions are the backbone of great wedding photography, not about how pretty the table decorations are or how creative the photographer gets with shooting the Bride’s Jimmy Choos.
Without people you can’t have a wedding. So it’s obvious that it’s the people who make the wedding special.
My passion is capturing the emotions of the wedding day. That’s what documentary wedding photography should be. Discreetly capturing those fleeting moments, those facial expressions of love, happiness and sadness.
Sadness, on a wedding day? Of course there is. There’s usually the sadness of Parents seeing their children start a new life. A Brother or Sister seeing their (possibly) best friend move on to a new chapter. Those family ties will remain after the wedding but will never be quite the same again.
Anyway, back to this image. WHY do I love it? Well, because it shows the sheer joy of the Bridesmaids, which include both the Bride’s and the Groom’s Sisters. Siblings who have been a part of this special day. I have to admit that at some weddings there’s a lack of visible emotion. People probably feel it but they don’t show it. Call it the British Reserve, or what you will. We’re not always a nation that publicly expresses our emotion. However, on this day, there was no hesitation. Emotions were most definitely on display, and what a great day it was!
