As we continue to look at specific images from weddings I’ve shot over the years, here’s one from Amelia and Sam’s wedding in Bournemouth recently. Their wedding was held at the Tudor Grange Hotel earlier in the Summer. The hotel’s faithfully based on an original Tudor House with parts relocated from a Berkshire Tudor Mansion back in 1927. The hotel retains many of the original Tudor features including oak panelling throughout, stained glass windows, golden rose embossed ceilings and the main “William and Mary” stairway.
Documentary wedding photography – bridal preparations
I love shooting the Bridal preparations because you never know what to expect! Some Brides are calm, others are stressed and snappy, others are quiet and introverted as they worry about whether the day will go to plan.
I have to say that Amelia was pretty relaxed, and she and the Bridesmaids were laughing and joking during the preparations. Their hair and makeup were being done by Laura and Tara, both of whom I’ve worked with on numerous occasions, so there was an awful lot of banter going on!!
I love this photo because I think it captures the essence of the Bridal prep. There’s nothing posed or set-up – honest! It just so happened that Tara had stepped back to look at the Bridesmaid and Laura was sorting out Amelia’s hair. It’s documentary wedding photography. It’s a true reflection of what was going on that morning. It’s the (organised) chaos of the Bride’s room, girls chatting as they have hair and makeup done before the big event. Real life.
