Not all wedding photographs have to show people’s faces – in fact, not having a face or an expression in the image can actually make the photograph stronger at times.
Shooting a wedding isn’t “just” the case of turning up on the day and shooting the prescribed images. True, there are certain shots that every Bride wants to see in her album, but whenever I’m at a wedding I’m never relaxing and taking it easy. As I said in last week’s post, I’m always watching people and looking for those unusual shots.
This image is from Clare and Michael’s wedding ceremony at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Bournemouth. I’d started the day shooting the Bridal prep at the family home in Ferndown, whilst my second shooter, Greg, covered the Groom’s preparations at the Hotel du Vin in Poole. Whilst the ceremony was under-way (and without intruding on the events) we were both on the look-out for those special shots. With the Bridesmaids lined up along the pew I was struck by the way that they were sat in height order, and grabbed this shot. If I was being a perfectionist I’d say that it would have been better to move just a little further to my right so that I could have included more of the first Bridesmaid and not so much of Clare’s Mother’s outfit. Only one problem with doing that … I would have had to move one of the guests on the pew behind, never a good idea for remaining incognito! 🙂
From the Church it was off to The Italian Villa at Compton Acres, where the sun shone and everyone enjoyed a fabulous reception.
