Yesterday I had the pleasure of being invited down to join in with the Beach Weddings Bournemouth 5th birthday celebration! Hardly seems possible that 5 years have passed since that calm, sunny morning in September 2012 when Melanie from BWB and I were down at the beach shooting the launch images. We had models standing in for a “real” couple, and along with the Registrars and a couple of press photographers it must have seemed quite surreal to people walking along the promenade! Certainly not the smallest party I’ve seen at a wedding though! 🙂 The first beach wedding in April of 2013 was live on Breakfast TV and I was shooting the Bridal prep at 4:30am – definitely not my usual routine and one scenario I’d rather not repeat!
The party was a chance for Melanie and her team to catch up with some of the couples who’ve married on the beach over the years and for some of their recommended suppliers to get together. It was a bit breezy initially (and that’s an understatement!), but the wind eased off as the evening progressed. The marquee looked stunning (as usual), dressed by Tammy’s Fundoo Weddings team. Rachel and Kev from Evertide Music took centre stage and kept everyone entertained whilst bubbles and nibbles were brought out from the kitchen – the team from Simply Gourmet doing a grand job behind the scenes! Melanie and the team were even treated to some special treatment, as Tara did their makeup so they looked at their best for the guests! There was also a birthday cake from Lisa Notley to add to the “munchies”. Whilst I was taking photos, Simon from Final Cut Film was shooting video and I can’t wait to see the footage, especially Melanie’s speech, in which she got really emotional. Have to admit I did too, when she specifically thanked me for my support over the years and said some really nice things – think I may have blushed with embarrassment (luckily Simon’s camera couldn’t see my face)!
It was great to catch up with some of my beach couples last night and it’s really nice to look back and reminisce with them about their special days. Thinking back to funny moments, the weather and remembering the emotions on the day.
As Melanie said in her speech, I’ve probably photographed more beach weddings than any other photographer over the years. Each one’s been different. I’ve shot in everything from blazing sunshine and 34 degrees to force 6 winds with driving rain and sand being blasted across the beach. But I have to be honest – with all of those weddings I’ve never had a single couple who’ve not been absolutely blown away by the service they’ve received from Melanie and her hard-working team. That’s a real testimony to the drive and determination of Melanie to make this the premier wedding venue in Dorset – the only place in the UK where you can actually marry on the beach.
The past 4 years of beach weddings have been a blast, and I look forward to many more at this very special venue.
Here are just a few sneak peeks from the evening – more images will be up on my Facebook page next week!
Please feel free to share this post on your Social media. I’ve also got a Facebook business page where you can catch up on the latest news.
