Bournemouth wedding photographer – about me
Hi, I’m Ian Hamilton,
I’ve been photographing weddings for over 20 years in the Bournemouth area. I hate having my photo taken, so I know how most people feel at their wedding!
I know how daunting it can be on your special day. Family and friends all wanting your attention. Being asked to smile, turn this way and that.
My style of photography’s evolved over the years. From my experience of dealing with wedding couples and also from my experience of life.
I want your weddings to be filled with fun and laughter.
If you pushed me I’d probably describe my photography style as ….
DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY WITH A CREATIVE TWIST
It’s a blend of unobtrusive documentary photography (or wedding photo-journalism) combined with a little style. So, let’s get away from the hype and talk about what that means in reality.
I like to be as unobtrusive as possible on the wedding day. Photographing the events and emotions as the day unfolds. Every wedding’s unique, and there’s a different story to be told every time.
Why is my style different to “pure” documentary wedding photography? Because most documentary wedding photographers don’t meet with their clients beforehand and many won’t take any group shots at all.
Wherever possible I like to meet my couples before their big day. It gives me a chance to find out what makes you tick as a couple. It gives you the chance to get to know me and so feel more comfortable on the wedding day. Believe me, when you’re relaxed in front of the camera it really shows – the photos are so much better!
I believe that a few group shots are really important, for the key family members, but not loads (you don’t want to spend ages in line-ups do you?).
So, what’s the “creative twist”? Well, you’ll never spend this much on yourself ever again! That’s why I think it’s nice to have a few, simple portraits of the Bride and Groom on their own. Images that show your connection and your love for each other.
I’m not talking about dragging you away from family and friends for hours and hours. No “fashion magazine” poses that make you feel awkward and bear absolutely no relevance to who you really are as a couple. I’m talking about stylish, elegant photographs that you’ll be proud of.
Wedding photography (of any style) is not about “snaps”!
It’s about observation, anticipation. Capturing those special moments that bring back memories.
