Bournemouth wedding photographerWho to tell you’re engagedUpdated 19 Feb 2018

If you’re reading this there’s a fair chance that I should be saying “Congratulations”! So, who do you tell that you’re engaged, and in what order?

Before you let the world know the good news via Facebook or Twitter you might want to let a few people know personally. Why? Because families matter – believe me, they do!

Nowadays it’s tempting to share everything in your life immediately with your BFF and your buddies. It may be considered “old-fashioned”, but letting family members know first shows consideration and I’m sure it’ll be appreciated by them!

Who to tell you're engaged

Excitement and anticipation!
Congratulations on your engagement!!

Who to tell you’re engaged? – Family first of course!

The first call should be to the Parents of the Bride. Of course, this is assuming that the question’s not been asked in front of them or that the Groom-to-be has asked their permission beforehand. If the Groom’s Parents don’t already know then that’s the next phone call.

Who’s next? If your Grandparents are still with us then they should be the next in line. If you get an answerphone please don’t leave them a message – keep calling back until you can get hold of them.

Next up are Brothers and Sisters. Even if you’re not close this isn’t the sort of thing that they should find out from Facebook!

Friends and everyone else

OK, now you can tell your best friends. They’ll be really pleased for you and will be dying to share the news on social media, but ask them if they’ll hold back until you’ve actually announced it. I know they’ll be itching to post up the news but if they care about you they’ll respect your wishes.

Finally, it’s time to tell the world! Facebook and Twitter and whichever social media platforms you use. Share a selfie. A photo of the ring. The bottle of bubbly!

Enjoy the moment. There’s a lot of work to do ahead! ……..
