Welcome to the next in my occasional series on some of the best places to get married – Dorset wedding venue review – Sopley Mill.
Sopley Mill is a renovated water mill in the Avon Valley just outside of Christchurch. Surrounded on both sides by the Avon River it’s a delightful and tranquil wedding venue. Built in 1780 it enjoys stunning views across the water meadows.
I’m delighted to have been involved with weddings at Sopley Mill since the venue was refurbished in 2013. It’s the perfect choice for couples who want an “exclusive use” wedding venue in Dorset. Once at the Mill, it’s almost as though your wedding party’s in a time bubble, away from the stresses and pressure of the outside world.
The venue itself has oak beams, exposed brickwork and a lovely patina of age. Oak beams add a lovely feel to the Avon Suite where the Bridal party can prepare. The Granary is used as the ceremony room and is airy and light, ideal for photographs (OK, so I have to declare a professional interest there!).
The lawns outside are the perfect place for your wedding party to enjoy their drinks reception and canapes. Ideal for party games like croquet, or for the more adventurous, spacehopper races. Enjoy the tension of a plastic duck race and marvel at how your sedate wedding guests suddenly transform into a screaming mob as they cheer on their plastic duck to victory!
Your caterers will prepare your wedding breakfast in the venue’s kitchen. The top floor’s the Riverview Room’s the location for your wedding breakfast, with rafters and exposed beams, full of character and festooned with fairy lights.
After your meal your guests will make their way back down to the The Granary, ready for the evening’s entertainment. If the weather’s fine this is the perfect chance for the two of you to sneak back into the grounds for some romantic photographs before the First Dance and the partying ….
Why not kick off your shoes, chill out and watch some highlights from Hannah and Neil’s lovely wedding at Sopley Mill? ……
