Charlotte and Mark’s lovely Lyndhurst wedding

Set in the heart of the New Forest, Lyndhurst is a delightful village. With its shops, art galleries, cafe’s and pubs it’s a popular tourist destination. Although many a traveller will testify to being frustrated at being caught in traffic jams during the height of the holiday season! It’s known as the “Capital of the New Forest” and was even mentioned in the Domesday Book. The church of St. Michael and All Angels was built in the 1860s and was the setting for Charlotte and Mark’s Lyndhurst wedding.

I mentioned the traffic? Well, anyone who knows the area also knows that the village can get grid-locked. So frustrating when all you want to do is be out enjoying the New Forest with the family! I always allow plenty of time for travelling to weddings, because you can never tell what problems there might be on the roads. For this particular wedding though I allowed an extra hour – just in case! Luckily enough I didn’t need it (even though it was a glorious Summer’s day) and I arrived at the family home with plenty of time to shoot the Bridal prep.

I was also lucky in that the house was in the village, and that the reception was being held there later. Bargain – no driving (and no parking problems)! Mind you, walking through the village with the heavy camera bag over my shoulders in the heat wasn’t exactly my idea of fun.

Anyway, the Church was lovely, with plenty of natural light flooding in. Unfortunately I was limited on what I was allowed to shoot during the ceremony. Why? Over the years the Vicar had been annoyed and frustrated with photographers who just didn’t show enough respect. So he put restrictions in place for all photographers. It’s unfortunate that some people have let our profession down in this way (I feel a Blog post building up on this one) but I always adhere to the Officiant’s rules – it’s only fair. It’s also a point that I mention to all of my wedding couples – check beforehand what the Officiant will allow.

The Sun was blazing down as we exited the Church, the bells ringing out, the tourists and motorists keen to get a peek at what was going on!

Back at the family home the reception got into full swing and before we knew it we were into the evening’s celebrations. Just LOVE a live band!

Charlotte and Mark – you were absolutely brilliant and I really enjoyed your special day! xx
