Durlston Castle wedding of Denise and Alex

On the Jurassic coast there’s a very special wedding venue with stunning views across Poole Bay. It’s always fun shooting weddings at Durlston Castle, irrespective of what the weather throws at me (well, it is England after all). In fact, the Durlston Castle wedding of Denise and Alex was a lovely event but the day dawned, well, kind of gloomy. To be truthful it was more than gloomy, it was damp and drizzly. But that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying themselves!

I met up with Alex and some of the guests down at Poole Quay, because they were staying at the Hotel du Vin, which is where the reception was being held. Alex had arranged for some rather special transport for the guests, an old Routemaster bus. Unfortunately we couldn’t use the Sandbanks Ferry because the overhang on the bus would have been an issue on the loading ramp. So instead we had a jolly little journey through the Purbecks, via the picturesque village of Corfe and its famous Castle.

The wedding ceremony was held in the Belvedere which enjoys panoramic views across Poole Bay towards the Isle of Wight. It’s a delightful room, with plenty of natural light flooding in – which is a bonus for wedding photographers! Denise arrived in the Belvedere via the spiral staircase and they were smiles all around as she stepped up beside Alex.

After the ceremony, whilst the guests were enjoying their drinks reception I took Denise and Alex outside onto the terrace, as they particularly wanted some photographs that made the most of the stunning views. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t playing ball and the mist and rain swept in, so we had to curtail those particular shots!

Everyone then climbed on board the Routemaster for the trip back to the Hotel du Vin in Poole, where they enjoyed their formal reception. No-one seemed to mind the weather and it was a great atmosphere on the bus – lots of laughter!

A huge “thank you” to Denise and Alex for asking me to be a part of such a fabulous day! x
