Wedding and portrait photography in Dorset
At the moment I’m busy editing weddings from the past couple of weeks (the less glamorous side of being a wedding photographer!) but I thought I’d share an image from a fashion shoot that I did a while back with the lovely Natalie.
People often ask me whether fashion and wedding photography have anything in common, and of course they do – whether it’s dealing with a model or a bride, the aim of the photographer is to make their subject look as good as possible …. this is done by understanding how to pose people in order to create the best image, understanding lighting and how this impacts on the finished photograph and most importantly, building a rapport and a relationship with your subject.
Also, a lot of Brides nowadays look at the glossy Bridal magazines, see images of high-fashion and quite naturally want to look the same in their wedding photographs – so it’s important for photographers to keep up-to-date with the latest trends and be able to deliver what their clients want.
Just as with every other profession, photographers need to constantly develop and improve their skills and techniques. It’s no use just waiting for the next wedding to come along and reel off the same, stock images …….. clients today want so many different things – images that are natural and relaxed, capture the moment and the emotion, images that are stylised and dramatic, and so many more! The photographer has to either be able to adapt to the client’s style, or be honest with them and say that they can’t deliver what the couple are looking for.
At the end of the day, the most important thing for me as a photographer is that at the end of a shoot, whether it be fashion, portrait or a wedding, I can deliver what my clients are looking for.
